What Is CBCT?
Identifying and diagnosing problems with the inner pulp of a patient’s tooth used to be extremely challenging. However, thanks to the development of CBCT or Cone Beam Computed Tomography, this is no longer the case. These machines have taken X-ray technology to the next level and are used at the endodontics office in Park Cities, Ayik + Berto Endodontics;formerly known as The Endodontics Group, Inc., when regular X-rays are insufficient.
Endodontists can produce a series of 3D images of bone, nerve passageways, soft tissues, and teeth with a single scan. The CBCT machine rotates around the individual and captures images with a cone-shaped beam during the scan. These images tell the endodontist what is happening inside the jaw, mouth, and neck of the patient. It also captures images of their ears, nose, and throat.
The primary advantage of using this technology at Ayik + Berto Endodontics, formerly known as The Endodontics Group, Inc., is that it enables our endodontics staff in Park Cities to view the existing condition in the patient’s mouth and differentiates between the different airspaces and structures. This includes the patient’s airway, bone, sinuses, soft tissues, and of course, their teeth. This not only enables us to provide the patient with a more accurate diagnosis, but it also helps us to develop a treatment plan.
CBCT technology can be used post-treatment as well and help us ensure that their root canal procedure or other treatment successfully addressed all of the patient’s problems. Very little is required in order for the patient to prepare for a CBCT scan other than wearing loose-fitting clothing and no jewelry.
